Brief History

Our school was reformed in July of 1997, and College of Human Ecology was established in September of the same year, for the purpose of meeting the needs of modern society and strengthening the founding principles of Shih-Chien University , especially basing on ¡u Whole Human Education ¡v to be the central concept, and as the teaching target. Also We use the entire mankind ecosystem as the teaching resources.

College of Human Ecology will place emphasis on ¡u vertical ¡v and ¡u horizontal ¡v development. Vertical aspect is developing the characteristic of each department, and horizontal aspect is integrating and connecting the cooperation of each department. Besides developing the concepts of ¡u Overall Human Education ¡v and ¡u Family Ethics ¡v , we also place importance on the teaching of human accomplishments and nurture the professional skill of second professional specialty courses. At present, we have carried out nine educational courses, which are Restaurant and Institutional Management, Children Environmental Design, Children Music, Multimedia Music, Food Science Industry Management, Family and Marriage Research, Elderly Care, Human Resources Development and Human Ecology Management and etc. to satisfy diversified principles of teaching. Those who complete each course can apply for the certification of the second professional specialty courses.

Characteristics

The unique features of the College include the practical applications of human ecology, the matching of social development with industrial needs, and the strengthening of the students' educational experience with cultural, technological, artistic, and social nourishment. Through the learning and sharing of concepts and experiences, professional ethics is nurtured.

Gerontology Study Center was established in September 2002 for the purpose of encouraging the continuing education of the elderly care and Mentally Developmental Study Center was established in June 2003 which provides professional trainings to whose who work in mental retardation institutes. In addition, through the cooperation with the evening division and continuing education center, we establish each kind of credits class in undergraduate division and graduate division.

The College of Human Ecology involves all science and experimental science actions related to mankind's life:

Department of Food and Science, Nutrition, and Nutraceutical Biotechnology .

Its' purpose consists in studying nutrition biotechnology, and live out a healthy human life.

Department of Social Work

Its purpose consists in integrating society resources to assist individual and family growth;

Department of Music

Its purpose consists in nurturing the music performance and teaching talented person with culture cultivation and art enthusiasm and devotion, to beautify peoples' hearts;

Department of Family Studies and Child Development

To study the family system and promote children welfare intelligence development and the overall moral integrity as the purpose;

Department of Restaurant and Institutional Management

To promote national healthy food, high quality food culture as the purpose.

Graduate School of Family Studies and Child Development

Its' purpose consists encouraging graduate students to be engaged in the study of specialized field and professional service.

The objective of College of Human Ecology is to discuss discoveries, studies, teachings and life science knowledge and skill popularization, in order to improve the life quality, promote family healthiness, children development, society harmony, people's livelihood happiness and welfare.

Future Development

1. Promoting community services, exploring community-wide problems and advancing community living standards.
2. Providing a high-quality research environment, improving the allocation of research resources, and emphasizing research accomplishments.
3. Enhancing the development of professional education, increasing the competitiveness of graduated students in their chosen fields.
4. Planning professional graduate school of each department to train professional leading talents of human ecology.
5. Developing international communication, and promoting exchange plans of human ecology between Asia , New Zealand , Australia , Europe , and America .
